I grew up in the UK, right in the heart of the IRAs most active years. The one thing I learnt from my stoic British upbringing, is the minute you let shit like that get to you and change an iota of how you live your life, the terrorists win. Obviously the government used the situation to their advantage and instead of taking the attitude of not letting the terrorists win, they saw a wedge they could use, to whip up fear and confusion and allow them to pursue some of their less than popular policy aims without too much ado from the public. The public, for the most part, went along happily, just like lambs to the slaughter.
