On Sunday, March 20, 2005, area residents upset with the Iraq war, the policy of preemptive war, and war in general met at Jeff Jones Memorial Town Square in Sandpoint. The crowd included war veterans, young people, and those not so young –all of them united in opposition to war and the White House’s policy.

Many of them came on behalf of military personnel serving in Iraq. Members of the military are barred from voicing their opposition to military policy. An Iraq veteran who spoke at that evening’s “Community Forum on War and Peace” stated that the soldiers in Iraq are counting on the people back home to stand up for them. He said that the troops are against the war; therefore, if you want to support the troops you have to oppose the war.

With that mindset, marchers chanted, “Support the Troops! Bring them Home!”
