5. Don't be fooled
Gretchen Wilson (and the Dixie Chicks) are about as "country" as the Sorbonne and winters in St. Moritz.

The real country performers don't go anywhere near lyrics like the ones you cited, nor do they get tangled up in politics. I have no idea where my favorite country performers are politically, although I do know that one - Dale Watson - is quite liberal, but then, he lives in Austin.

So, don't worry. Country is real, and those people - Gretchen Wilson, et al. - are just bad pop singers.
