how the Royal Family behaved during the Blitz:
They stayed in London. And if any of you know ANYTHING about the nature of bombing in those times, you will know that there was NO SUCH THING as "Precision Bombing."
ALL bombs which the Germans dropped in London, endangered the Royal Family. Because, there was no such thing as "precision bombing" at that time. (And even today, there is not much precision, but there was NONE in 1940!)
One bomb fell onto the Palace, unintentionally. Well, guess what.
NONE of the bombs which fell in London, were aimed with any precision! NONE of the bombs in that war, were aimed with precision!
The Royal Family stayed in London, to share the same perils as ALL Londoners shared.
I am not saying that they were extraordinary heroes. But compared to GW Bush who ran like a rabbit on 911, the Royal Family, including Elizabeth and the late Queen Mother, behaved very courageously during the Blitz.
And about the Royal Family being "German", as so many of you say:
It is true, but only in the most abstract genealogical way.
If they were Nazi sympathisers, or had any special connections with Hitler's Germany, they would not have stayed in London during the Blitz, while they were in as much danger as all other Londoners.
As an American, I am hostile to any kind of monarchy IN my own country, in my Republic.
But that does not mean that I must hate all monarcsh in other countries. And the Royal Family of the United Kingdom, have been honorable patriots, AND good defenders and supporters of one of the greatest democracies in the world, certainly at least since 1939 when America was still avoiding the war against Hitler.
In 1940, during the Blitz, the Royal Family put their lives on the line as enemies of Hitler, far more than any Americans did in 1940.
Just setting the record straight here.
And if any of my American compatriots hate Royalty, then I say, fine, I agree. Let us hate Royalty in our own country. But give credit where credit is due, to the Royals of countries outside our own. Especially to Royals who have shown some real courage in defense of Democracy, as Britain's Royal family did in 1940.
