72. the intelligence they gave was sound and qualified with uncertainty
the problem was how this intel was selectively used to make their case for invasion of iraq. and as has been pointed out, it was the Office of Special Plans, not the CIA which soiled the diaper. the intel the adninistration recieved from the CIA didn't make an airtight case for invasion, so they created the Office of Special Plans (can you say Orwell?)to circumvent the CIA and DIA. from my view, THis purge i not about the quality of intelliegence, its about "loyalty" to the party line. They want to control the intel to meet their ideological objectives and prevent political embarrasment. The motive is politics, in an action that should recongnize only professional competence and experience. They seem to be saying, well if you don't agree with the president and supply him with intel he wants, you're fired and will lose your pension. What if the raw intel doesn't jibe with the party line? How is purging agents with 20-30 years experience and replacing them with political hacks like Goss going to help us get better intel? This is very disturbing and reeks of fascism.
