But what kind of job are we doing?

Today, we spend more per pupil than most Western countries, but we get the least bang for the buck.

30 - 40 years ago a high school education really meant something. If you could not read, write, & compute, you did not graduate. We have a lot more kids attending college today, but the quality of a college education has also gone downhill. Many colleges require remedial courses for freshmen. That is insane.

My son taught a college biology program as part of his graduate degree program, & was amazed by the lack of basic reading & writing skills.


I do not know what the answer to any of this is. I only know we are losing ground, & I am worried for the future of our country. I think we are losing our technology & scientific edge, & if so, the future will not be as good for upcoming generations.
