Where there is no longer any respect for expertise.
Everyone feels that they can do whatever anyone else can do.

Hence the proliferation of reality TV shows . And music and arts are not much different when procurers are simply finding cogs that fit a market rather than exerting the effort to cultivate artists who can create new markets. And if a movie has any creativity or cleverness it is seen as having an agenda beyond it's pure beauty.

So with this continual dumbing down of society and culture (selling the same old cereal in a new box) someone like George Bush is able to find a base and seen as a "good ole boy":
He's not very smart
Not very clever
Not a deep thinker
Zero signs of any intellectualism
Has trouble speaking in front of people
Pathological liar
Alcoholic
Drug abuser

This gives him wide appeal from the ignorant who identify with him to the uber wealthy that see him as the pawn that he is.
