I have met. And I refer to "Real People" as a person who is generous, non judgmental, and has a thirst for scientific, philosophical knowledge.
None of the atheists I know want to kill people for their religion, or impose their dogmas on somebody else, or try to proselytize.
My husband is an atheist: he is the most generous, kind soul I have ever met. And he does it because it is the right thing to do, not because a "higher power" tells him.
