I think the two of them were having a good ol' time with this. Kerry's whole campaign so far has been feint, fake, and watch the fireworks. Use your opponent's strength against him. Let your opponents weaknesses take him down with only a little help. Let 'em run in circles boxing shadows. Rove really has nothing on this guy when it comes to media manipulation.

Kerry's Old School Senate, when they could argue over policy during the day and have a few drinks together that night. Kerry's personally very close to McCain and Hagel and no doubt quite few of the other Republicans.

I don't doubt for a minute that Kerry would stop, or at least slow down, the extreme partisanship going on on the Hill right now. There will always be fights and power grabbing, but Kerry's gonna work much better with Republicans than Shrub ever could with Democrats, or even some in his own party.
