29. Well, keeping in mind that for the most part my head...
is typically lodged firmly in an area that is usually sat upon, I just see that hate appeals to people who are not quite mentally stable. Many freepers hate, vehemently. Many freepers do not reason, nor do they question their assumptions. Many freepers never question other freepers, rather they look to validate each others twisted, fictional views with ever increasing hateful and violent imagery and epithets. I know many here have seen this on freeper message boards. It looks crazy, no? Well...

Get close to a racist in a social situation. Then, observe that same racist amongst other racists. The energy level of the hatred goes up when they get together. Synergy, whatever. It can even become a contest to make the most extreme statement or declaration, but they must never question what has been said. To do so breaks the spell and endangers the delicate sense of empowerment. Doubt in ones own superiority must never be questioned.

I know that people well trained in such disciplines as psychology have observed and documented all of this and written about it in ways that explain it ever so much better than I ever could begin to. But I believe that extreme views of politics or society spring from extreme states of mental duress or neurosis. Hate is just not healthy.

Of course, some asshole could use this idea as a reason to purge "undesirables", and we know how that usually works out. The normal folks get purged first.

Anyway, I guess I am saying never expect a freep to react in a rational manner. Even the freeps that seem calm and pleasant and smile when you talk to them and discuss things. My experience has been that if you give it time, and scratch the surface, you will eventually stumble upon a vein of hatred just below the surface. When you do, it will glow and you will see it and so will they and you will smile at them in a "gotcha" sort of way and they will either lose their temper or pretend it never happened, but you will know.

And they will hate you forever.

Let's be careful out there.
