| 55. This report cites Drudge as the most "centrist"? |
|
And Fox News Special Report as more "centrist" than either the ABC or CBS evening news?
Of course, they express surprise at these statistical results. But the study ignores some important facts. First and foremost, it does not take into account any issues that are NOT discussed by mainstream outlets. For example, the recent FCC overturning of media ownership rules was not covered by ANY major media outlets. I would doubt that something like this would come into play in such an analysis.
Furthermore, the author of this report states that he "expected the media to have a slightly liberal bias", but was rather "surprised at the extent." This assertion to me demonstrates a lack of objectivity at the outset.
I don't claim to be completely objective on this issue, but despite my education in Engineering and Physics I think there is danger in trying to reduce social phenomena like this down into purely statistical models. The fact that he found Drudge Report (which isn't even "news", IMHO) to be the most "centrist" should have called for an alternative analysis for comparison sake, which he did not provide.
