Austin is one of the more liberal areas in the Republican stronghold of Texas. In an Internet posting, Dean campaign manager Joe Trippi reminded supporters that the ad could also help build support for the state's Democratic primary, held in March.

Dean is the only candidate who is advertising on television so early in the race. His first ad ran in Iowa this summer and cost the campaign more than $300,000.
