From the common working class point of view: It's a liberal who thinks they're smarter than everyone else and who believes their political policies are superior to those of others.

In the South, this plays very well, because we are fiercely independent people. Should Kerry win the presidency, I suspect his greatest opposition will come from the South and should he ignore them, he will do so at his own peril. There's too much economicially at stake in this 1/3 of the country.
