2. While I personally have no idea in hell if Obama would retain
Gates, I personally hope he chooses not to.

There are scores of others who would be far better choices, plus it is an important symbolic act to clear out the appointees of the Bush era, plus there's the added political benefit of strengthening your position through smart, new, strategic appointments.
