A dress shirt, shoeshine and confidence may not be enough for young job seekers in Michigan seeking summer work as companies find more experienced workers.

Manpower Inc., the Milwaukee-based temporary employment service, says auto industry layoffs in the Rust Belt have created a pool of older workers whose job experience and qualifications are pushing out high school and college students looking for seasonal work during summer vacation.

They're going to be competing with people who are looking for permanent employment definitely, Manpower's Denise DeSantis told Monday's Detroit News.
