It's not that surprising the story made it to TV - a co-owner of a store (actually, I think more than one, from what the TV report says) suddenly dying might get noticed as a very local level which might have worked up to local TV level anyway, but, yes, TV covers 'Black Friday' (look at the intense interest in stories about it on DU), so they would have been on the lookout for injuries or worse at stores.
