is repeated more to convince us than to reflect what experts actually believe.

I think those who make a living from politics know better, be they mass media, or strategists or pundits know better.

It was once true that the right had to watch its right flank, but the left did not have to watch its left flank. The right has always had something brewing-Birchers, little splinter parties, like the Constitution Party, rogue Libertarians, etc. And now, the Teabaggers.

The Left did not have as much splintering. But that changed in 2000.

Besides, they know about a turnout problem in both the Coakley v. Brown election and the midterms. IOW, people don't always need a place to go. They can always stay home. IMO, that is THE worst thing a leftie voter can do, short of voting Republican, but people do it.
