And very often the symptoms can mimic CFS and fibromyalgia. They can also mimic other diseases such as ALS, multiple schlerosis, dementia, rheumatoid arthritis.

I think the bigger problem is that there is just so much that medical science doesn't yet know or understand, and lots of sick people who cannot be easily diagnosed, and a medical establishment that is not comfortable with uncertainty and ambiguity. That makes it easier and more comfortable for many doctors to just brush off a difficult diagnosis and attribute it to "stress" or psychiatric causes. It's easier than telling someone "you've got something wrong, but I don't know what it is".
