I guess i can forgive them for being on holiday when it kicked off, since unless they had prior knowledge of this happening they could hardly have come back before it happened.

What the problem may be is that they didn't come back fast enough. Although to be honest i wouldn't expect them to come back after one nights disturbance, if they did people would just accuse them of not having faith in the police. Certainly would expect them to be back now, in the third night.
