3. it is a safe city...
NOW. in the mid 90's el paso had the highest rate of gang activity in texas, and among the top in the entire southwest. lots of my friends died or ended up in prison there. now its a completely different city. the cops ran a massive and really brutal anti-gang operation, and it seems to have worked. el paso remains one of the main corridors for drug imports to the u.s. and lots of people are still involved in the drug trade, but its gotten a lot less violent over the last decade. not so much for the mexican side.
