to deal with people who protest the Junta, by torturing and killing selected targets and leaving their bodies by the roadside, or shooting them dead in front of their homes or offices with drive-by motorcycle hit squads, as an object lesson to the people in general. Dare to protest and you may be next!

The Junta trumped up charges of "treason" against Zelaya, after he was out of the country. But who are the real traitors to their country and their people?

Zelaya is a traitor in one sense--he is "a traitor to his class"--much like our own FDR. Zelaya was born to wealth and became and an advocate of the poor majority. He raised the minimum wage, for instance, cutting into the profits of wealthy sweatshop owners and foreign (mostly U.S.) corporations and lowered bus ticket prices for poor workers (the latter by joining ALBA and getting cheap oil from Venezuela). He even joined the widespread grass roots movement to re-write the Constitution, to increase public participation and say in their government, and specifically to empower the poor majority who have had no say whatever in Honduran affairs basically since Columbus landed. Zelaya is a "traitor" to oppression, to minority rule and to brutal behavior by the rich against the poor. He is a traitor the way Thomas Jefferson and George Washington were traitors. And those who ousted him and are forcing their rule on Honduras with police and military violence--and, coming up in November, with a rigged election--most resemble our own gang of real traitors: Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rove.
