and sometimes even the liberals here aren't really all that liberal. There was a vote in 2006 here in Tennessee on whether to amend the state constitution to ban same-sex marriage and it passed with 81% of all voters voting for the ban. I was among the 19% who voted against it and was shocked and saddened to find that the gap was so enormous.

Fortunately, I'm in a blue county in a very red state but yeah, I'm surrounded by a lot of conservatives. :(
