the assertion is not perfectly reasonable. "I don't know everything, but they acted stupidly" may be reasonable to you, but it struck a lot of people (and not just cops and Republicans) as uninformed and stupid.
It was also an unnecessary distraction from the health care debate, so it was actually stupid on several levels.
