The stores could manage those things much better. They want the hype and the crowd running through the stores chasing down one of those 10 HDTV's that there are 2000 people waiting for.

A local Best Buy set up shopping carts outside the store to control the crowd on the way in. You had to walk single file through the line of carts along side the store to get in. It kept those people who rush the door at the last minute at bay.
