18. Why was the U.S. war against the Barbary pirates a good thing?
People and nations that practice piracy have a built in failure mechanisms that inhibits societal advancement. Would strange looking men in wooden ships continued to harass steel ships in modern times?


The cost in lives and treasure of using force against the Pirates of Tripoli far outweighed any causalities that those pirates ever inflicted. I don't believe in might makes right.



Find more ethical ways to reduce losses. Robot crews, alternate shipping routes, cargo submarines etc. Policing the seas is a waste of money.
