| 73. This is political posturing for their paper. |
|
Not unlike Republicans up for re-election in 2008 backing away from Bush. When 2008 comes and they predictably endorse a Republican candidate, they can claim independence by writing a single critical article. Right Wing newspapers across the country are doing this to reclaim their credibility so when they throw their support behind the Republicans in the '08 election, it has more weight to it.
Bush is going to be in office the rest of his term and cannot run again. They do no disservice to their party by backing away and gaining credibility with Republicans that are sick of Bush. This allows those gullible Republican voters to believe the opinion that is fed to them by this paper again and clears their conscience for believing them before on Bush.
This puts Republican candidates and propoganda machines back in the mainstream just long enough to continue their constitutional coup de tat with wins in 2008.
