17. I would suspect it's going down well.
The woman was weak and snivelling; not good for the Brits, but she's a woman, so all that shows is that the British military is stupid and desperate.

But having the men be as weak and snivelling as the woman? It shows that the British military isn't composed of men; the Iranians are standing up by rejecting international norms on displaying hostages as things--that, and taking British military folk hostage show they're strong, and insist on increasing their honor ... the Iranian military is composed of real men. And if you read Islamist writings, you see that "honor" and "manhood" and the like are every bit a part of their Islam as Muhammed (who, himself, was steeped in a retrograde honor culture). Those that have no honor don't need to be dealt with as men, or even as humans.

Dishonoring outsiders is a given if they have an "incorrect attitude" and don't properly submit; if they come as supplicants, as guests, then it's ok to give them honor--the honor given increases the honor of the giver. But having outsiders dishonor those in your group is horrible, and must be avenged; for a Muslim to torture a Muslim is bad enough, but for an outsider to insult a Muslim is far worse. It's possible for an outsider to thoroughly smack down a Muslim and Arab, but it had better be in just the right way or all it does is increase the sense of hurt honor and injustice that is already so rampant in the Middle East; even worse is the fact that honor pertains not just to individuals, but is derived from group identity, whether family, clan, tribe, nationality or religion. ("Just the right way" has yet to be found, however, which makes dealing with such cultures a losing game: it's why genocide was the norm in most places until recently.)
