I have colleagues who regularly peer review medical research statistics prior to publication of findings.

I've heard the same things you mentioned, from them, including the iatotropic nature of most of the treatments, at least for today.

I also concur with your assessment for Powell's potential to bring some good out of this medical tragedy.
