...we should either subsidize low skilled wages or directly give the working poor money through a negative income tax.

We shouldn't put the burden on small business owners to pay low skilled workers more than the market says they are worth. It will only increase unemployment of low skilled workers or force firms to raise prices.

Oh and people my age (18 years old) who only work for spending money and live off checks from mom and dad don't deserve an artificial, government set, raise.
