40. Toppling stable democracies seems to be their primary goal
Edited on Fri Nov-28-03 05:54 PM by Say_What
at least it is in Latin America. It's NEVER been about *democracy*. It's ALWAYS been about protecting US corporate intersts at ANY price. No different today. Colombia is a prime example--a phony *drug war* is being used as an excuse to provide millions for military aid and counter insurgency. OIL is the real reason.

Colombia is the US' 8th largest supplier of OIL. The area where the worst atrocities are being carried out is the area that produces 80% of Colombian OIL. Latest news is that the RW paramilitaries, responsible for 70% of the massacres in the last two years, have laid down their arms and are gonna be reintergrated back into society (school etc). Meanwhile, the city of Medellin is saying they're not gonna support these murderous thugs with taxpayer dollars. Three rings of security by the Colombian military currently guard the paras who are an a recreation site on a three week vacation!! The US lapdog Uribe is saying that this is the way to peace! Yeah, right. At the expense of how many thousands of lives? The majority of the Colombian military was trained at the School of the Americas. THAT'S Uncle Sam's version of *democracy*. I have no doubt that these same atrocities are being carried out in Iraq.

On edit: Welcome to DU, Voice of Europe :hi:
