Racism Comes Home:
The Howard Beach Case
By REED ALBERGOTTI, THOMAS ZAMBITO, MARSHA SCHRAGER
AND JOHN ROFE
On Dec. 20, 1986, racial tension in Howard Beach exploded into headlines when a gang of white youths brutally beat three black men who had stumbled into the neighborhood, chasing one of the three to his death when he was hit by a car crossing the Shore Parkway.

… perhaps the darkest secret of the Wallowa country of northeast Oregon, usually known for the tragic Nez Perce War of 1877, resurfaced recently with the discovery of the long-lost court records describing what some have called, "the crime of the century" and "one of the bloodiest and most spectacular mass murders in American history." This crime, which today remains marked by controversy, was the ambush, murder, and mutilation of Chinese gold miners in the 1887 Snake River massacre.

There's always the hope that maybe one day, racism and bigotry won't be around. Idealistic, yes.
