It would seem that GULF, BP Amoco, Shell, Gulfstar, Chevron, and Texaco all have wells in the Gulf, though I can't say for sure who has leases with the US government. Imagine that same landlord owns most if not all of the farms in the area. Those farmers can try to pass off the increase as 2 or 3 cents more per ear of corn, and with many other farmers in the same situation, the price change might not be very noticeable.. This may not be enough to get people to no longer buy corn from those farmers. Farmers who are not affected may even take this opportunity to raise their prices by a few cents and increase their profit margin.
On Edit: Sorry, it looks like all those companies drilled at one time, although I can't say for sure which wells are still under lease.
