These are written off the top of my head, but I have been trying to rewrite a more comprehensive post on my fears about the progression to what John Dean calls a "constitutional dictatorship." I feel that the delays and the prevention of maintenance and strengthening of the levees and the blockages of aid from other states and from foreign countries are part of a deliberate use of this natural disaster and human tragedy to push forward the Bush Administration plans for greater power. They won't call it martial law (I sort of like "Operation Safe America," but they're better at these Orwellian names than I am) and it wouldn't happen all over the country immediately - it would be step by step - but that is what they want.

I also believe that the Administration, with the collaboration of its Poodle Press, is going to continue to try to hype the idea of class/racial violence. I believe they want to now use our fellow Americans as their domestic version of "TERRA-ISTS™" to stoke and inflame fear and tension so much that they will succeed in terrorizing the public into allowing them to institute a military police force and suspend more and more Constitutional protections until the Constitution itself is ultimately suspended. The long delays and the lack of direct contact with the areas make such class/racial tensions much more likely.

Yes, I believe it's deliberate. Of course they didn't cause the hurricane (though they had been warned that sooner or later it was likely) and they are indeed incompetent. But what they are doing now is deliberate and we ignore that to our peril.
