We are a poorer country as long as we continue to treat one group of citizens as inferior to another. That was certainly the case during segregation. It is no less the case now, when we deprive naturalized citizens to opportunity to seek the highest office in the land. While it is true that far fewer people are affected by this caste system, the principle is the same. All citizens deserve to be treated equally. Telling someone they can't be president simply because they aren't a natural-born citizen is wrong. It's just plain wrong. It's rooted in suspicion of the motives and loyalties of immigrants. The Democratic Party I belong to doesn't condone xenophobia.
