73. Email addys for Newsweek

As diarist Susan Hu mentions over at DailyKos (http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/5/15/211444/985), the stories of Koran desecration at Gitmo are well-sourced and come from multiple sources -- and have been reported on for months, as this January 2005 Philadelphia Inquirer article shows
(http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/nation/10685611.htm).

Note that Bush's White House did not call the Newsweek story "inaccurate". Instead, it used the term "irresponsible", which is the word the Bush administration uses to describe media coverage that forces the Bush administration to face the fruits of its own bad actions.

*ACTION*

Please pick one of the sources of corroboration mentioned in Kos and email it to a journalist covering this story and/or to the letters to the editor address at a major daily. Do the same with a cable news show or two. Find addresses below.

Write a general letter to the editor stressing how it is important that we focus on determining if the story is true. If it is, responsibility lies with the Administration rather than a journalist for reporting it.

My contribution--

To the editor:

There is no reason for Isikoff to apologize for having one Pentagon source for his story about desecration of the Koran. This story is not only multiply sourced, but has been in the news for months, albeit rarely ‘above the fold’. For other examples dating back to January of 2005, see the following links.

http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/nation/10685611.htm\

It is important to point out that the White House did not call Isikoff’s story "inaccurate". Instead, it used the term "irresponsible", which is their code word for “When we do really stupid things, the rest of the world has no right to find out about it.”
