1. What is this job that you have, where you meet so many Jews? Do you work at the Jewish Community Center, or what?

2. How do you know they are Jews? Do they have Stars of David on their arms?

3. How do they happen to be talking to you about Arabs? Are you somehow attempting to solicit a negative response?

4. I don't think anybody "smirks" about "Palestine", or thinks there's anything funny whatsoever about this situation. I do think you should maybe understand that the Palestinians refuse to recognize Israel and the Palestinian Covenant expressly vows to destroy her and her people.

Perhaps that is why people feel uncomfortable when you talk about "Palestine". It is sort of a painful topic for the reason I have just mentioned, and of course the five wars and countless acts of terrorism, since the early part of the 20th century.

Furthermore, "Palestine" is a Roman word, a word meaning "Philistine", who were also enemies of the Jewish people. After the Romans evicted us from our homeland, they called Judea "Palestine" in an attempt to wipe our history, along with us, right off the damn map.

There is, therefore, a LITTLE bit of sensitivity on this topic.

Maybe you should try mentioning "Israel", with respect. It might improve your social relationships. You might even make some wonderful friends.
