The vatican doesn't run on the same liberal/conservative track youj are trying to force it into.

John Paul II, for example, when it came to social justice, war, and poverty, was as progressive as you can be.

When it came to sex, he was reactionary.

But its not so simple, and its not the same, as the black and white we use in american politics.
