10. Norquist openly admits that he wants a one party state
In an interview in the Boston Phoenix last year Norquist was quite clear that he doesn't just want to defeat Democrats in elections, he wants to literally destroy the party. Part of his scheme is to destroy the institutions that support the Democratic party day - to - day. For example, it was Norquist's idea to have the GOP leaders in Congress tell businesses that they'd get no hearing for their issues unless they replaced their Dem - affiliated lobbyists with Republicans. When the Motion Picture Association of America defied the threat by choosing a Democrat to lead the group, Congress slapped the film industry with a one billion dollar tax hike. I guess Norquist's goal is something like Mexico was for six or seven decades, technically a multiparty state but with a completely powerless opposition that never won any elections.

It's quite clear that, at the highest levels of the GOP, they just don't believe in democracy. They believe in power.
