But what I really don't understand is WHY WHY WHY, these farms are even in proximity to the ocean.

Why aren't they in tanks where eco-systems are set up to mimic nature?

You know how they have sewage treatment systems that mimic wetlands... where waster goes into various tanks and ultimately you end up with clean water.
