There are always US Navy ships in the Persian Gulf.
The question is, where are the Carriers? Are they in the Gulf of Oman (NASNAS, Naval Air Station North Arabian Sea, sometimes called Gonzo Station) or in the Gulf itself? If the carriers are in the Gulf, the target is landlocked Syria; if in the Gulf of Oman it's Iran.
