Biden Rips Republicans In Speech To NEA
Source: CBS Chicago

Vice President Joe Biden has been in Chicago, speaking to a nationwide teachers union, saying Republicans are attempting to blame educators for budget shortfalls; and he said that’s “one of the biggest scams in modern American history.”

The vice president spoke Sunday at the National Education Association’s annual convention. The union bills itself as the largest labor union in the U.S.

As WBBM Newsradio 780’s Steve Miller reports, Biden told the 9,000 conventioneers, in Chicago for the NEA meeting, that he and President Barack Obama are on their side, unlike—he said – the new Republican Party.

(snip)
“You know, all states are struggling from the impacts of this brutal recession that we inherited, yet there is an organized effort to place the blame for the budget shortfalls squarely on educators and other public workers. It is one of the biggest scams in modern American history,” Biden said.

3. It's "Sanders, not "Saunders."
You're wrong about that, and wrong about the rest.

9. Well, in theory, yes.
But in practice, not so much.

Try and suggest that the Democratic party is an inherently unstable coalition that in any other parliamentary democracy would be between three and five separate parties, and keeping them pulling in the same direction is impossible, and about all you can reasonably expect is to minimize the amount of time they spend pulling in opposite directions.

It's already too complicated and unromantic an idea for general comprehension.

Far easier to have OP's like "Obama: Regan Republican, or just Eisenhower Republican." Short, sweet, to the point -- and completely untethered to reality.

14. Not untethered from reality...
It's just a shorthand way of describing the practical effects of the situation you outline.

With the Republicans moving ever to the right and the Democrats scrambling to keep up the practical effect is that in a lot of ways Obama is at best an Eisenhower Republican.

Neither Eisenhower nor Goldwater would find a place in the modern GOP but they would in the Democratic party.

5. Democrats aren't as easily labeled as republicans..
They can have differing viewpoints. Nothing wrong with that. It's American.

7. Biden should talk to Obama about this. Talking to teachers
is preaching to the choir. Obama persists in his wrong, wrong, wrong policies.

8. Yeah, this is in the same vein
as the "comfortable shoes" bullshit. Educators under asualt EVERYWHERE, and one of the prime instigators is Arne Duncan & crew!

10. atta boy, Joe....
....lay some scunyun on those evil-doing Republicans....

"...place the blame for the budget shortfalls squarely on educators and other public workers."

"It is one of the biggest scams in modern American history,..."

....absolutely, when you consider it's the Republicans who are responsible for our budget shortfalls when they bush-wrecked our economy....

13. I was there and my sign said "Fire Arne and We'll Talk!"
Biden gave a good speech. Now, I want to see action. Tomorrow we vote to early endorse Obama. We'll see how that goes. Actions speak louder than words. After Duncan was on the phone with Gov. Snyder, Emergency Manager Roberts, Eli Broad to discuss the Detroit plan, I have little hope for change.
