A Myth
About September 11th
December
19, 2001
by An Ordinary Patriot
Apologists for the cabal of greed and self-interest infesting
the White House have continued to "lower the bar" for their
misadministration's abysmal performance, practicing their
deceitful brand of politics by pandering to the "soft bigotry
of low expectations". In just a few months, they've exacerbated
economic conditions leading to record setting increases in
unemployment. These whining demagogues persist in their claims
that "September 11th is to blame" for everything from corporate
welfare to unemployment, repeatedly likening the atrocious
events of that tragic day to Pearl Harbor in a hypocritical
attempt to disguise their attack on both the economy and civil
liberties behind a cloak of patriotism.
Well, let's look at that claim. Private sector employment
at the end of December 1941 was UP 11.0% (3,330,000 workers)
over the year before. At the end of January 1942, it was UP
11.1% (3,258,000 workers) over the year before. And at the
end of February 1942, it was UP 11.1% (3,068,000 workers)
over the year before.
And what happened this year? Private sector employment at
the end of September 2001 was DOWN 0.3% (281,000 workers)
over the year before. At the end of October 2001, it was DOWN
0.8% (842,000 workers) over the year before. And at the end
of November 2001, it was DOWN 1.2% (1,322,000 workers) over
the year before.
It's sad but true that war has always resulted in increased
private sector employment in this country.
Between Feb 2001 and Nov 2001, the number of unemployed American
workers increased by 37.5% (2,224,000 people). In the five
month period between Jun 2001 and Nov 2001, the number of
unemployed increased by 27.1% (1,738,000 people).
To put this in perspective, more jobs were lost in the five
months between June and November 2001 than ANY OTHER five
month period in the last 53 years of this nation's history,
with one exception ... the period between August 1974 and
May 1975 after the general public finally realized they'd
had a criminal in the White House, and he'd resigned.
How long will it take the public to realize it this time?
