Never Lose That
Feeling
by Whyzayker
"There is no week, nor day, nor hour when tyranny may
not enter upon this country - if the people lose their confidence
in themselves and lose their roughness and spirit of defiance
- tyranny may always enter. There is no charm, no bar against
it. The only bar against it is a large resolute breed of men."
-Walt Whitman
If ever in the history of our democracy there was a need
for the "large resolute breed of men" and women, that
time would be now and for the next four years. The selection
of George Walker Bush by a narrow majority of the Supreme
Court is the most obscene affront to the words of the greatest
Republican, Abraham Lincoln. He spoke of a government "of
the people, by the people, for the people." Yet in December
of 2000 a partisan court stifled the wishes of the people.
A group of judges willing to tear the blindfold off of Lady
Justice while pulling down their pants to moon the black American
voters and others in Florida so they might choose for themselves
their desired outcome. Like the bumper sticker says,"The People
Have Spoken… All Five of Them!"
Arising from the ashes of this sham "election" is an explosion
of Anti-Bush web sites (like this one) all committed to exposing
this imposter for what he is. Bush is a guy who has had everything
handed to him, including the presidency. He is, without a
doubt, the most undeserving resident of 1600 Pennsylvania
Ave ever!
And yet I'm afraid we'll give up the fight. We are bombarded
everyday with conservatives telling us, "He was elected, he
has a mandate, we're doing the people's work, he is
the president." Sorry, folks, but nothing could be further
from the truth! And yet I sense the anger is subsiding.
My fellow Democrats and other liberals, do you remember how
angry you were last Dec.14th? Does Karen Hughes still make
your skin crawl? Do you still wanna slap Ari Fliescher? Can
you look at the faces of John Ashcroft, Gail Norton or Ms.
Todd-Whitman without a single worry at all? Can you say "President
Bush" without wanting to gag or break something?
Ralph Nader deserves some credit for all this because he
contributed to the apathy that surrounded this election. The
guy kept telling us that there was little or no difference
between Al Gore and the "Shrub-Meister." Some people who went
to the polls actually believed that. Well, kiddies, whatta
ya think now? No difference my ass! Ralph, I love ya but you
screwed us big time! All you managed to do was make it more
difficult for the bone-heads in the media to realize that
Gore actually won Florida. Now we have to listen to Trent
Lott gloat! Thanks a lot, Ralph. Love some of your ideas but
your timing still sucks!
My fellow Democrats and Liberals, we have one common enemy.
It's not the GOP vermin that are going to spend the next 4
years trying to convince us that Jr. won. It's not the "Christian"
Right that will continue to try to convince the world that
they hold the keys to heaven. It's not even the "roll-over"
Democrats in Congress who are presently giving this undeserving
weiner-head we're supposed to call "Mr. President" the Reagan
Treatment (see "free ride, asses up and rolling over").
No, it's not any of those.
Our common enemy is apathy.
The very same problem that got us here in the first place.
Do we have the anger within to carry us through until 2002
when we can stack the Congress in our favor and that of the
majority? Do we have the same backbone that our republican
counterparts had for the last 8 years to really undo the damage
that has been done? They failed miserably….will we also?
Do not allow this travesty of our system to go "their"
way! Write or email your congress rep. and tell them to
stop being such wimps! Tell your local media about this and
other web sites like it and tell them to stop trying to make
us believe something that isn't true! (Ignore Fox…they're
clueless and bought anyway) Write the newspaper! Speak the
hell up! It's your right! And above all… do NOT lose the
anger!
Walt was right, however, tyranny does not have to be Hitler-in-your-face.
Sometimes it sneaks in through the back door of the White
House.
