1. Sadly, "independent film" has just become one more pre-programmed formulaic Hollywood niche.

Meandering, pretentious-pretending-to-be-profound Millennial-friendly plot, alienated youths/20somethings played by Zooey Deschanel, Ellen Page, Michael Cera, etc.

Soundtrack heavily laden with acoustic guitar Elliot Smith rip-offs, or excessively Twee bands like The Shins or Death Cab for Cutie...

Stick it in a blender, send it to sundance under a major studio's "indie" label, and voila, "Independent Film".
