It's a state that has been trending Republican, specifically at the presidential level, since 2000. Gore lost it. Kerry lost it. Obama lost it (and will lose it) and I don't see it coming back. Even their elected officials, outside Jay Rockefeller, who probably has enough clout to do so, have turned unquestionably anti-Obama.
It sucks. But it's a bigoted state. It's sad to see once strong Democratic states slide more and more conservative. It happens, though.
Maybe in fifty years, when they realize because of the conservative ideology (and I say that because even their Democrats seen conservative) they have nothing, they'll come around.
But right now? They're either too stupid, too ignorant or too naive to care.
