They'd be shocked how diverse it is, especially in the major cities.

Sweden has high taxes and a very generous safety net. The same goes with all Scandinavian countries. Switzerland is the closest country to "conservative ideals" (whatever those are), but taxes and the general cost of living are still high and while health care costs are higher there than most other European countries, it's still a mixed public-private system.
