17. Some of the huge problems Lefties have with our media habits
Mon Nov 26, 2012, 06:58 AM
Nov 2012

Many of us love to spend large chunks of our free time reading/listening/watching RW infotainment and getting shocked and appalled. THEN we post lots of links to their content as we describe how upset they make us.

...over and over, day in and day out for the 10+ years I've been on DU.

To a large extent it doesn't help and here's why:

1) The energy spent venting/preaching to the choir could be put to better use.

2) It fills our heads with THEIR ideas and crowds-out ideas we should be learning and developing, making and loving them as "our own". This is a big reason why a large chunk of center-Left ideas are denigrated on Liberal sites as "purist" and "far-Left" (though I try to explain that progressive purity would amount to communism, so it is a false but effectively harmful accusation) because many of us are underexposed to them and we end up seeing them as alien when opportunities arise for hitting our rubber to the road.

2a) Over the years I've come to recognize a type of individual Liberal or Progressive who not only suffers the malady of ideas, but has evidently become emotionally dependent on the RW personalities for whom they express so much distaste.

3) NOT THE LEAST: It substantially raises the stature, page-ranking and ad revenues for the RWers.
