8. Unfortunately big money does work in smaller pockets which is why the GOP was able to keep the House

With the 2010 Census and the GOP dominating Governorships and State legislatures, they were able to redraw the district lines leaving most of themselves in safe, bulletproof disctricts. They maintain control of the house even though Congressional Dems candidates received more votes overall. Senators in most cases having to run a statewide election in a lot of cases are more vulnerable.

So with a GOP controlled House, the GOP is still in a position to Obstruct and remain safe in their districts. The Koch brother machine can easily overwhelm Democratic candidates, particularly in an off election year, and it wouldn't cost a lot of money. The couple of Tea Party candidates who lost, Joe Walsh and Allen West are the exception, though a welcome exception. Alan West spent something like 6 times the money his opponent spent (though he still lost). So we still have to get big money out of politics.
