10. Bonehead is grasping the fact that he has just this term to create his own

LEGACY.

Just as Tip O'Neill, the consummate politician, could disagree without being disagreeable, and could enjoy a shot or two of booze with Saint Ronnie while cajoling him along and steering him slightly "less crazy" if not "less right," Bonehead realizes that he can be an obstructionist asshole on the wrong side of history, or he can go down in history as the "loyal opposition" who worked WITH this historic president.

He's starting to feel the weight of time and the sense of how history will regard him if he continues to conduct himself like a priggish asshole. Those teabaggers ARE crazy. They're like the "Contract (on/with, take your pick) America" nutjobs that came in under Newt and who were crushed or compromised in short order.

That's what his change of heart is all about.
