Iran is playing us, just like we played the former Soviet Union: We knew the USSR couldn't keep up with defense spending (our 'Star Wars' ploy) and we also knew they couldn't feed themselves--we were constantly sending grain shipments to them which propped up their regime.

Iran, much like the No. Koreans, is playing for time, using the threat of building a bomb, in order to preserve the regime.

It takes lots of money to maintain a bomb even when you have one, just ask the So. Africans or for that matter the Libyans, who have renounced their programs in order to keep money in the pipeline for the people's benefit:
